
Jointly with Non-Life Insurance Institute of Japan, the Japan Chapter held Ethics Awareness Month Open Session on February 13, 2008 at a conference room in the Japan General Insurance Association Building.
The guest speaker was Mr. Takashi Onoda, Senior Advisor of Mitsui Sumitomo Marine &Fire Insurance Company, Ltd., who was past Chairman and CEO of Sumitomo M&F Insurance Company. He also served twice as the president of General Insurance Association of Japan.
Mr. Onoda's theme was "New Principles and Guidelines for Insurance Companies in the age of Liberalization". Having reviewed the historical developments of Japan's property and casualty insurance market after the World War the Second, together with his own career developments, he suggested what should be focused in the coming years from the ethical point of view.
At the end of his speach, Mr. Onoda encouraged CPCUs in Japan to play more important roles in the more global and liberalized age. About 80 attendants from insurance companies and agents/brokers participated in the session.
After the key speach by Mr. Onoda, the Japan Chapter members referred to ethics and insurance professionalism, introducing the summary of AICPCU Professional Ethical Codes.
